Raitha Sangha stages protest against eviction of Inam land holders

Last Updated 27 October 2014, 17:43 IST

Karnataka Raitha Sangha members staged a protest  against the failure of the government to solve row over Inam land and Balasubramanian committee report on the encroachment of government land, in front of the DC’s office in Chikmagalur on Monday.

The protestors urged the government to provide justice to Inam land holders. They burnt the copies of Forest Conservation Act and Prevention of Land Encroachment Act on the occasion.

The government notification has termed even the land belonging to temples as a reserve forest. Inam land holders should be allowed to cultivate on the land they are holding, the protesters said.

The unscientific report submitted by the Task Force Chairman Balasubramanian should be scrapped. A detailed survey should be carried out to assess the encroachment of the government land.  Gomala, Soppinabetta, grassland, devarakadu, paisari, kumki, Kaval, neduthopu and revenue lands have been wrongly termed as  forest and reserve forest areas. The mistake in the report should be rectified.

The farmers and poor land holders who have not applied for regularisation of land under Akrama Sakrama scheme should be given a chance to apply. The borders of revenue and forest land should be identified, said a memorandum submitted to the government.

The raitha sangha members also urged the government to frame a policy to regularise at least 10 acre of land cultivated by farmers, they said.

Raitha Sangha district President D R Duggappa Gowda, district Secretary B C Dayakar and others were present.
