Rs 25 crore loan waiver for endo victims'

To give relief to the endosulfan victims of Kasargod district, the State government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to waive off their loans, said Kerala Minister for Agriculture K P Mohanan. 

Speaking at the district-level meeting of endosulfan rehabilitation cell in Kasargod on Friday, he said that an amount of Rs 10 crore has been set aside to waive off loans up to Rs 50,000, Rs12 crore for waiving loans in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs two lakh, and Rs three crore for clearing loans borrowed between Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh.

The decision to waive off the loans will be taken by the district administration after holding talks with the banks. Loans above Rs two lakh will be waived off as per the recommendations of the State government. 

Only loans borrowed to meet medical expenses will be waived off, the minister said. 

As many as 189 of the 447 endosulfan victims living outside the notified 11 affected gram panchayats in the district were given Rs1.50 lakh each as recommended by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The official said that Nabard has released Rs 8.4 crore to rehabilitate endosulfan victims. 

Tender process for nine Buds schools have been completed.  Permissions have not been issued for starting Buds school at Bellur panchayat. Cheemeni Ayurveda hospital will get therapists shortly. 

MLAs N A Nellikkunnu, P B Abdul Razak, K Kunhiraman, District Collector P S Muhammed Sagir, sub-collector K Jeevan Babu and others were present on the occasion.
