Last Updated 24 October 2014, 22:00 IST

Alarmed by back-to-back incidents of sexual abuse and assault on children in schools, the RTE (Right to Education Act) Task Force, a group of  various organisations working for children and parents rights, will on its own conduct a drive to observe safety measures in schools.

A team comprising parents—three women and two men will be formed, who will visit schools in their respective areas and inspect issues like whether staff details have been verified by schools, are they aware of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012 and other measures.

“We will be carrying permission letters from Commissioner of Public Instruction and Child Rights Commission. If they (schools) do not allow us inside in spite of this, then we will stage a protest in front of the school. Parents in each locality will have to organise themselves into groups and talk to children about safety measures in their schools. At times like these the community needs to step in and do its part in ensuring safety for children,” said G Nagasimha Rao, convener, RTE Task Force.
