Last Updated 24 October 2014, 20:00 IST

Following instructions from the State government, sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), headed by DySP Kumaraswamy A, on Friday launched an inquiry into the alleged lapses by the police during the assault on the Director General of Administrative Training Institute, Rashmi V Mahesh.

The team arrived here on Friday and quizzed the police personnel of Nazarbad station. The assault on Rashmi had taken place on October 15, after which she alleged that the police had “aided and abetted” the attackers. This prompted the government to constitute a probe into the allegations.

Kumaraswamy told Deccan Herald that he would meet Rashmi on Saturday, as part of the inquiry. “Preliminary inquiry is being done now. We will submit a report to the government as soon as the investigation is completed,” he added.

Mysore police commissioner had suspended the sub-inspector, Narendra Babu, attached to Nazarbad police station, for “dereliction of duty”, following the assault.

Two more held

Meanwhile, two men, who were caught on camera assaulting Rashmi, were arrested on Friday.

They are Shivaraj and his wife Kamalamma. In the video footage, Shivaraj was seen hitting Rashmi with a slipper. Kamalamma had also assaulted the officer. With their arrest, the number of persons to have been arrested in connection with the assault is now 30.
