JOIN USDespite dominating the proceedings on the first two days, hosts Karnataka had to settle for a draw against Tamil Nadu on the third and final day in the under-16 South Zone Vijay Merchant Trophy here on Wednesday.
Karnataka took home three points on the basis of their first innings lead while Tamil Nadu were awarded one point. Resuming at their overnight score of 118 for four, Tamil Nadu reached a respectable total of 206 in 91.3 overs with Pradosh Ranjan producing a 63-run knock.
Choosing not to enforce the follow-on, Karnataka rode on Manoj Bhandage’s 55 and SS Luvnith’s unbeaten 40 to post 106 for two before the match was called off.
At Mandya, Andhra registered a convincing ten-wicket victory over Goa to earn seven points, including a bonus point. After having been asked to follow on, Goa resumed from their overnight score of 28 for three only to be bundled out for a paltry 139 in 67.4 overs.
Vamshi Krishna, who struck 75 in the first innings for Andhra, came good with the ball too claiming 4/21. Surya Kumar was also among wickets bagging 3/58. Set a target of a mere eight runs, Andhra sealed the game in their favour in 3.4 overs.
