Last Updated 20 October 2014, 19:00 IST

The Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA) has issued eviction notices to resorts that are said to operating illegally in the core zone of the World Heritage Site.

HWHAMA Commissioner Dr Gopal told Deccan Herald that the resort owners had been given two weeks to vacate the place. “The Authority will carry out the eviction if the resort owners do not comply with the notice. The expenses incurred for eviction will be recovered from the owners,” he said. The notices were issued on October 16.

It is estimated that more than 30 resorts are operating illegally at Virupapura Gadde and Anegundi in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district, under the jurisdiction of the Authority.
Dr Gopal said that the resorts were situated within the area where buildings cannot be constructed without obtaining permission from the Authority.
