A two-and-a-half-year-old girl fell to her death from the balcony of a fourth floor flat in west Delhi’s Dabri on Wednesday. She was playing in the balcony and happened to climb over the railings when her mother’s attention was diverted by some work.

Police said on Thursday the railings were quite low in height, thus enabling the girl to climb over it.

Police ruled out any kind of foul play as Priyanshi Paswan’s parents told them it was an accident.

A call was made to the police control room at 7.05 pm. A police team rushed to a nearby private hospital where she had been taken to. But she was declared brought dead.

In a wink

“The girl was playing in the balcony of her home and her mother was inside. The mother said she was keeping an eye on the girl even while working inside. But for a few minutes she diverted her attention to some work during which the accident took place,” a police officer told this newspaper.

When the mother returned to take a look at the toddler, she found her missing from the balcony.

She took a quick look in the house and then looked on the street down to find people gathered around something. Some among them looked up and signaled to her on which she realised her daughter had fallen off.

She rushed down the stairs to find Priyanshi bleeding and lying motionless. Since her husband was away at work at that time, the woman rushed her daughter to a private hospital nearby with the help of some neighbours.

Head injuries

Doctors told police that the baby had suffered severe injuries to her body, but the wounds on her head led to the death.

The only child to her parents, Priyanshi lived with them at their rented flat in Chanakya Place Part-1 in south-west Delhi’s Dabri. Her father works for a private company.
