Tension prevailed in Khanapur town in the district on Wednesday following a group clash over closure of an allegedly unauthorised slaughterhouse.

An activist of a pro-Hindu group reportedly raised objection over the functioning of the abattoir. The irked members of another group thrashed him and he sustained grievous injuries.

As the news of the assault incident spread, members of pro-Hindu group staged a flash protest in the town demanding the arrest of the attackers. They also staged a protest at Shiv Smarak Circle. A few miscreants took advantage of the situation and went on a rampage, throwing stones. Two vehicles were damaged.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nyamagouda said a group of people took objection when a person was clicking photographs of women. They thrashed the man and this led to tension.
However, the assaulted person claimed that he was taking the picture of the slaughterhouse. Police have detained two persons in this connection.
