JOIN US Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with e-rickshaw drivers and with all AAP MLAs to ensure success of the October 8 rally at Jantar Mantar.
Claiming that over two lakh families have been impacted by the High Court ban, Kejriwal on Monday had written to the Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, saying if a solution to the problem of e-rickshaw drivers in Delhi was not found, a massive protest would be held next week.
“If one-two lakh people turn up at Jantar Mantar and roads in the vicinity get filled, I assure you Nitin Gadkari will be forced to issue a notification within 24 hours,” Kejriwal told e-rickshaw drivers on Tuesday.
AAP has already ordered for pamphlets and poster for the forthcoming rally. The party has also formed five committees in each Assembly constituency to mobilise crowd. “We have communicated the importance of rally to all our MLA candidates,” a party leader said.
The former Chief Minister said when he had last met Gadkari on September 16, he had been told that a policy for e-rickshaw was being formulated under the Motor Vehicles Act, and that this would be notified in next 10 days.
“When we contacted his department on September 28, we were told that the notification in this regard would take some more time,” Kejriwal told e-rickshaw drivers.
In his letter to Gadkari, Kejriwal said the e-rickshaw drivers are suffering despite the Prime Minister’s assertion that red tape will be reduced and business will be made easy.
“But if the new government’s bureaucracy could not make a policy in four months, is the style of functioning the same as that of the Congress? Poor e-rickshaw drivers don’t want investment or anything else from the government, but only a policy for them,” he added.
