Members of various associations like Civil Engineers Association, Lorry and Tractor Owners’ Association, Construction Workers’ Association and Workers’ Association staged  a protest to solve the row over shortage of sand by blocking MP Shobha Karandlaje’s vehicle on Monday.

The MP was returning after inaugurating the newly constructed PWD office. The protesters not only blocked her vehicle, but also picketed the PWD building.

They complained the MP that despite making several requests, the sand issue has not been solved. Shobha Karandlaje replied that it was the problem of the State government and the Centre had nothing to do with it.

In fact, the BJP workers had picketed the deputy commissioner’s office demanding to solve sand issue, but police case have been registered against them.

She also suggested that a delegation should meet the chief minister and revenue minister to impress upon the issue and she would accompany them. Later, the protesters gheraoed PWD office and demanded to release seized sand.

But, the department officials said that they have not received any written communication from the deputy commissioner to allow sand mining and its transportation. The protesters once again staged a protest in front of the DC’s office.
