The Kannada and Culture department has selected former MLA Vatal Nagaraj, the founder of Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha for the Sangolli Rayanna Award -2013 in recognition of his campaigns to protect the interests of the State.
Vatal was selected for the award by a committee headed by litterateur Chandrashekar Patil, according to a government communique on Saturday.
M G Biradar of Gulbarga has been selected for the K G Kundanagar Gadinadu Sahitya award -2013 in recognition to his contribution to literature.
Well-known sculptor Basavanna Monappa Badiger has been selected for the Jakkannachari Award-2013 and Saraswati Gowda of Mandya has been selected for the Danachintamani Attimabbe Award-2013 in recognition of her contribution to the field of culture. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh each.
The government is yet to announce the date and venue for the presentation of the awards.
