Bopanna, Reena power to gold

Bangalore’s GN Bopanna and local lass Reena George shared top honours clinching the 100M gold in the Dasara Games athletics event here at the Chamundi Vihar stadium on Friday.  

Fresh from the State championship gold, Bopanna clocked 10.70 seconds, 0.2 second ahead of the silver medal winner Vaishak N of Mysore for his triumph while Reena romped home in a timing of 11.09. The day witnessed three records, all of them coming in the women’s category. 

In the women’s long jump, Bangalore’s Praneetha Pradeep created a new meet record, with an effort of 5.79 metres.  The 1500 metres race saw Shruthi KL clocking a meet mark of 4:43.09. Mahalakshmi (4:53.08) and BK Supreetha (4:54.05) finished second and third.  In the 4x100 metres relay, hosts Mysore set a new record, winning the contest in 3:59.64 seconds, erasing the previous record of 3:50.00.
