Do not get addicted to bad habits, Judge tells students

District and Sessions Judge Shivashankar Amarannanavar said the nation can progress only with an addiction-free society.

Speaking after inaugurating a workshop titled ‘Students’ contribution to addiction-free society’ here at Thenkanidiyur First Grade Government College on Monday, the judge said the people who got addict to bad habits will not be able to lead a normal life. Their earnings will be wasted on the addiction.

The judge noted that alcohol is not the solution for any disease. He called upon the students not to get spoiled with the addiction. The students should come out of the western influence to lead a standard life and contribute to the progress of the nation. The addiction-free society is the responsibility of all, he added.

He stressed that students should develop good hobbies and have good friends in life. Initially the students will get addicted for bad habits for fun, however, gradually the addiction itself will destroy the life.

Speaking on the occasion, Physician P V Bhandari said the increasing addiction among the students have created threat to the healthy living of the society. More than 41 per cent of disease occur due to various addictions. Increasing number of the sexual assault cases, suicide cases, depression, accidents are all connected with addiction for various bad habits.

He urged students not to believe the advertisements that misguide them regarding alcohol consumption and other habits. Getting addicted is easy. The trouble will be realized only after getting addicted and it is not easy to come out, he said.
