Women prisoners air woes

Last Updated 19 September 2014, 18:26 IST

Women inmates poured out their woes before Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manjula Manasa who visited them at Central Prisons in Parappana Agrahara.

“Our families do not come to visit us. Once we are released from jail, where should we go? Our family members should be called and the differences should be sorted out,” said some prisoners.

“Some of the women prisoners said that they should be released considering that they are women. Some said that they committed the crimes accidentally. However, the law is equal for all and those who have committed a crime should undergo punishment.

Some also requested that they should be given a chance to meet their children individually and a separate room should be made for that,” Manasa said.

"There are 19 inmates from Bangladesh and most them are in jail due to visa issues," added Manasa.
