Elderly woman robbed at home

Assailants thrash, tie her up; flee with valuables worth Rs 50 lakh

A 62-year-old woman was tied, thrashed and robbed of jewellery and cash worth over Rs 50 lakh by four masked men at her home in south Delhi’s Kalkaji on Tuesday. Even her domestic help was tied and thrashed, police said.

The four men had come in a Maruti Eeco car and their act of arriving and leaving was captured in a CCTV camera installed in the area.

However, police are yet to identify or nab any of the accused.Vinita Sikka lives with her husband, son and daughter-in-law at Kalkaji’s G-Block.While her husband is a property dealer, her son and daughter-in-law work with private firms.

The three were away at work at the time of the crime leaving Vinita only with her help.
The robbers, all said to be aged between 20 and 30, pulled out and carried away an entire locker containing Rs 4 lakh in cash and gold and diamond jewellery when they were unable to open the box. But before that, they had also pulled out gold bangles worn by Vinita.

Daylight attack
The incident took place around 2 pm. She had seen off at the door the last family member who had left for work and then went into her room to sleep.

“When I woke up a few hours later, I saw four strangers, each standing on one corner of the bed. I got scared and called out for my domestic help Bhagwan Das but there was no reply. One of them asked me where the cash and jewellery were kept. When I refused, one of them punched me,” Vinita told in her statement to police.

The men first forced her to remove her gold bangles and then tied her up.They also taped her mouth moved her into her son’s room.

Help also beaten up
Meanwhile, Das rushed into the room and tried to untie her, but he was allegedly beaten up too, tied and dragged from there.

Vinita told police that she found him tied up in the kitchen after the robbers had fled, and she had managed to free herself.

She went on to untie Das after that and he informed police.The robbers, meanwhile, opened a cupboard to take out the cash and jewellery kept inside the built-in locker.

When they could not succeed in opening it, they plucked out the locker itself and fled.
Among the robbed items reported by the victims are several gold chains, bracelets, lockets, and diamond pendants.

They also made away with an expensive Rado watch. Police at Kalkaji are investigating the case and said they hoped to crack the case soon with the available CCTV footage.
