Amethi royals in war of words

Last Updated 15 September 2014, 18:53 IST

Congress Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh and his son Anant Vikram Singh were engaged in war of words a day after a cop was killed in a clash between Vikram’s supporters and police.

Police are also looking for people, who had opened fire during Sunday’s clash as a result of which a cop was killed, and some people were detained for quizzing, sources here on Monday said.

Speaking to newsmen at his palace in Amethi, Sanjay Singh accused his first wife Garima Singh, son Anant and daughters of trying to incite violence and blamed them for Sunday’s clashes outside the palace.

“Anant is my only son and he will naturally inherit the property. There was no need for him to resort to violence. He has tarnished the image of our ancestors,” the Congress leader, who was flanked by his second wife Amita Singh, said.

“Anant and his mother have brought in the public domain something which was entirely a family matter,” he said asking the media not get involved in the family dispute.

However, Anant alleged that there was a conspiracy to kill him and demanded CBI probe into the violence.
A tense calm prevailed on the streets of Amethi following Sunday’s violence. Security personnel were deployed in strength as a precautionary measure. Police have rounded up some suspects in connection with the killing of the cop Vijay Mishra.

A case was lodged against Anant Vikarm and 250 others at Amethi police station charging them with inciting violence
