Two NSUI nominees in forged papers row ahead of DUSU polls

There is cloud over eligibility of NSUI presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the Delhi University Students’ Union elections after the right-wing rival group ABVP on Wednesday produced documents to establish that they misled the college authorities to secure admission. 

While marking the copy her letter to the DU chief election officer, the professor-in-charge of Campus Law Centre (CLC) Usha Tandon has recommended cancellation of admission of the vice-presidential candidate Mona Chaudhary to the Dean of DU’s Law Faculty for allegedly furnishing ‘fake’ document at the time of admission. 

The NSUI candidate for the president’s post Gaurav Tushi, enrolled in the Motilal Nehru College (Evening), is under scanner for allegedly concealing information. 

If the allegations are found to be true, both candidates will face disqualification before a single vote is cast in DUSU election, which will be held on Friday. Confirming the receipt of the complaints, D S Rawat told Deccan Herald, “We had received complaints yesterday (Tuesday) evening. Since this matter pertains to colleges, we have asked principals to verify their documents. If the colleges state their admission stands cancelled, they could be barred from contesting elections.” 

The BJP-backed ABVP has alleged that the Chaudhary was enrolled in two full-time courses simultaneously. 

“This year, Mona took admission in LLB 1st year in CLC with a BA degree of Manav Bharti University, Himachal Pradesh done from 2010 to 2013. This is a regular full-time degree as this university does not offer correspondence courses,” Saket Bahuguna, ABVP general secretary said.

He added that she produced fake certificate to get admission in the DU’s law faculty. “In the light of the above, it is emphatically suggested that the admission of Ms Mona Siwach alias Ms AAA Mona Chaudhary (name changed in her election affidavit) to the LL.B course may summarily be cancelled with immediate effect on the basis of available documentary evidence,” the professor-in-charge of  Campus Law Centre said in a letter to Dean Faculty of Law.
