Court summons Swamy

A Principal Sessions Court in Tamil Nadu has asked BJP leader Subramanian Swamy to appear before the court on October 30 in connection with a defamation case filed by Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.

When the petition came up for hearing on Wednesday, Principal Sessions Judge Audinathan asked Swamy to appear before the court on October 30. Jayalalitha filed the defamation case in connection with the alleged remarks made by Swamy on fishermen detained by Sri Lanka.

Swamy had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy belong to Jayalalitha’ aide Sasikala and DMK leader T R Baalu.

The case, filed by public prosecutor M L Jegan on behalf of Jayalalitha, said the accusation was highly defamatory, false, malicious and directly impeached the reputation of the chief minister.
