Karthik Gowda gets anticipatory bail

The VIII City Civil and Session court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Karthik Gowda, son of Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, in a rape and cheating case registered against him in R T Nagar police station here.

Judge G B Mudigowder granted the anticipatory bail with conditions that Karthik should produce Rs 2 lakh bond with two sureties, appear before the investigating officer as and when summoned, visit the station on 15th and 30th of every month and sign the register, cooperate with the police, not destroy evidence or try to influence witnesses.

The judge warned Karthik that the court would cancel the bail if he was found to have violated any of the conditions.

In the 62-page order, the judge pointed out some discrepancies in Maithreya Gowda’s complaint that she was married to Karthik and was raped by him. There is some confusion as Maithreya filed the complaint two months after the alleged incident took place.

Maithreya’s counsel said they would challenge the order in the high court.

Karthik avoided the police as he wanted to evade arrest.

With the court granting anticipatory bail, he will now be out in the public, Maithreya’s counsel said.
