Heavy rain claims six lives in MP

At least six persons have died due to heavy rain in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, said a senior official said here on Monday.

The administration sounded a high alert in the district and declared a holiday on Monday in government and private schools, he said.

 “Six people lost their lives due to heavy rain in the Khandwa district, while one person is missing,” Khandwa Collector M K Agrawal told reporters here. Three people were swept away in an overflowing drain near Manjhagarh village while they were trying to cross it on a motorcycle.

Later, bodies of two of them were found and identified as Premu and Sadiq, while a search is on to trace the third missing person named Ashish.

Similarly, two persons were swept away on the Khandwa-Moondi road near Sinhada village, said the collector, adding that efforts are on to identify them. Two others, identified as Vicky and Abhishek, were also killed by the heavy rain, at their residence in Adarsh Nagar area.
