HC rejects bail plea of terror accused

Last Updated 03 September 2014, 18:54 IST

The High Court has rejected the bail application of Syed Tanzeem Ahmed, a resident of JJ Nagar who was arrested in November 2012 on the charge of having links with banned organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI).

Tanzeem is accused No 25 in the Bangalore module terror case being heard by a special court of the National Investigating Agency (NIA) here.

He has been accused of possessing jihadi material in his mobile phones and email accounts, besides having photographs of Narendra Modi and a right-wing Kannada journalist.

He sought bail on the ground that he has been in jail for almost two years. But a division bench of Justices Mohan M Shantanagoudar and Pradeep D Waingankar rejected the bail application for the reason that nine other accused were absconding and if Tanzeem was released, he might run away. But the bench directed that the trail be conducted on a daily basis for speedy justice.
