This Dasara, get a taste of various delicacies of tribal communities

The menu of Dasara Food Mela this time may get bigger, offering foodies a mixture of indigenous to exotic delicacies.

Addressing the officials at a preliminary meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday, K Rameshwarappa, Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies and Working President of Food Mela sub-committee said that the Mela will be held from September 25 to October 2 at Scouts and Guides Ground behind the deputy commissioner’s office.

Alternate farming

Rameshwarappa said that alongside introducing different cuisines of the various tribes, food grains produced using indigenous and alternative farming methods would be displayed for sale. 

Rameshwarappa said, the sub-committee is vetting into the demand of extending the mela even after Dasara. In the previous year too, there was a similar demand, but the police had refused to give a go ahead citing traffic hurdles.

ACP (Traffic) Prabhakar Bharki suggested changes to enable parking of vehicles inside the ground, and that vegetarian and non-vegetarian counters be set up separately.

There were also suggestions to install CCTV cameras in and around the ground.Food scientist Chidambara said that emphasis will be given on providing healthy and hygienic food.

Road repair

With roads in several parts of the city in poor shape ahead of the famous Mysore Dasara celebrations, an action plan of Rs 1.62 crore has been submitted to fill pot holes. 

Speaking at a meeting, M V Ramprasad, Chairman of the Standing Committee on City Planning and Development, said that Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided to each ward of MCC to take up the works. 

He said that an action plan had been submitted to Deputy Commissioner, C Shikha for approval, following which works will be taken up.

He said that the committee would recommend the city Council to install busts of poet-saint Kanakadasa at Kanakadasa Circle and Sir M V Visvesvaraya at Sir M V Circle in the city.
