This CDPO owns 16 properties across the State

When Lokayukta sleuths raided the house of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) E Ramakrishnaiah at 2nd stage, Vijayanagar in the city on Tuesday, they did not find gold, silver or other valuables. 

However, they eventually discovered that they were bigger things at play, with the officer having dabbled extensively in real estate. Ramakrishnanaiah owns sites, houses and cars  worth Rs 5.02 crore. This includes 16 properties - 13 sites in Mysore, Bangalore and Tumkur district, and three houses in the same locality (including the house that was raided) all in the name of Parvathi, worth totalling Rs 4.19 crore.Among them, assets worth Rs 4.52 crore was declared as disproportionate to the known sources of income.

The Lokayukta police led by SP S M Jagadeesh Prasad knocked on the door of Ramakrishnaiah  around 6.30 am. His architect wife Parvathi opened the door as the accused officer had gone out for a walk. He returned after sometime.

During the mahajar that lasted nine hours, around 3.30 pm, it was found that the officer who had earlier been working at H D Kote had been recently transferred to Mysore, but had not reported to duty. He was waiting for a suitable posting. 

Interestingly, the couple neither had gold nor silver valuables in their possession, as they had invested in real estate, buying sites and houses. 

The only agricultural land measuring two acres and 17 guntas at Hullenahalli in Hunsur taluk in the district, was earlier purchased in the name of a relative Kenchamaraiah and later transferred to Parvati’s name. 

Another interesting feature was neither of them owned two-wheelers, and they had three cars for mode of transport. The couple’s two sons are studying MBBS -- one among them is studying abroad. 

The house was devoid of a pooja room, but portraits of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Mother Sharada and Swami Vivekananda adorned the walls of the house.

Apart from finding the documents related to sites and houses, Rs 88,982 cash was found in the house, Rs 15.88 lakh in savings bank accounts, Rs 15.27 lakh was invested in seven LIC policies and bank deposits worth Rs 4.79 lakh.

One held

In a joint operation, City Crime Branch (CCB) police and Food and Civil Supplies department officials recently raided an illegal gas refilling unit and recovered 23 LPG cylinders worth Rs 60,000 by arresting a person in this regard.

Following an information, the officials raided a house converted into illegal gas refilling unit behind a church in Sathyanagar. The accused identified as Manzar-Ulla-Khan who was working with a gas agency as a driver had stored the cylinders at the house. 

In all, eight fully loaded domestic cylinders, six empty domestic cylinders, four empty commercial cylinders, three empty cylinders weiging three kg each and two fully loaded commercial cylinders, and a refilling rod have been recovered from the house.

The team consisted of CCB Inspectors P A Sooraj and R Jagadish, food inspectors C M Mallikarjun and K N Raghavendra among others, the release added.
