Poulose finishes fourth

India’s 110M hurdler Maymon Poulose missed a medal as he finished fourth while Senthil Kumar Mithravarun was fifth in discus throw in the second Youth Olympics here on Saturday.

Both Kerala hurdler Poulose and Tamil Nadu discus thrower Mithravarun came up with career best marks.
Poulose clocked a creditable 13.57 seconds in ‘A’ final of boys’ 110M hurdles. Jamaican world junior medallist Jaheel Hyde clinched the gold in 12.96 seconds. Henrik Hannemann of Germany (13.40) and Gyeong-Tae Kim of Korea (13.43) occupied the next two spots ahead of Poulose.

In men’s discus throw, Mithravarun delivered a throw of 57.06M. Chinese Yu Long Cheng won the gold with a throw of 64.14M. Germany’s Clemens Prufer was second with 63.52M while Ukraine’s Rusian Valitov was third with 57.48M.


In archery, Atul Verma and Hem Latha Boda advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s and women’s recurve individual events respectively.


Verma beat Min Thiha Kyaw of Myanmar 6-0 (28-24, 28-26 and 29-24) while Boda defeated Maya Raysin of Israel 7-3 (24-22, 26-26, 27-23, 25-30, 25-24). In boxing, Shyam Kumar Kakara lost to Rufat Huseynov of Azerbaijan 1-2 in the preliminary round of the men’s lightflyweight (46-49kg) category.
