JOIN USBangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi on Wednesday said security would be heightened during the Independence Day celebrations and as many as 1,183 police personnel would be deployed in and around the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hoist the National Flag.
Addressing a press conference, the commissioner said: “There are no specific threats but the police will be on high alert across the City to make sure that no untoward incident takes place.”
As many as nine DCPs, 16 ACPs, 48 inspectors, 101 sub-inspectors, 15 women SIs and 77 women ASIs, 182 head constables, 459 constables, 94 women constables and 182 plainclothes policemen will be deployed at the venue.
There will be 1,000 hand-held metal detectors and 30 door frame detectors at the entry points to check people entering the parade ground. Also, five anti-sabotage teams and two bomb detection and disposal squads will be used for sterilising the venue before the event. Apart from this, there will be six Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) battalions and two Rapid Action Force (RAF) stationed near the ground for emergency purpose, added Reddi.
Around 40 CCTV cameras have been installed at the venue and 56 men will be moving around with cameras on the ground as this will help alert the police if suspicious activities are found. The police are monitoring the venue on round-the-clock basis. Several ambulances and doctors will also be stationed at the venue to handle any emergency.
All the rooftops of buildings near the Parade Ground will be secured by the police before the event. For the past 15 days, all hotels and lodges in the City are being checked by the jurisdictional police. Anyone found misbehaving or trying to create commotion in the City or at the venue will be dealt with in accordance with law. The sensitive areas across the City are also being monitored.
