Ali for Dhyan Chand

Swimmer Khatu P Thakkar who won two gold in diving in 1951 Asian Games, India’s current Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali, who won gold in 1994 Asian Games and bronze in the 1990 editon, and Gurmail Singh, who was part of gold winning hockey team in 1980 Olympics have been recommended for the Dhyan Chand Award on Monday. 

Veteran athletics coach N Lingappa and judo’s Gurcharan Singh Gogi are among the five names recommended for this year’s Dronacharya award.

Wrestling coach Mahaveer Prasad, G Manoharan (boxing) and Jose Jacob (rowing) were the other coaches to be picked by a selection panel headed by former hockey captain Ajitpal Singh. From the five, Lingappa, Gogi, Jacob and Manoharan will be conferred the award in 'Lifetime Achievement Category'. The award is the highest honour for coaches.
