Breach in Hemavathi sub-canal damages crops

A sub-canal of the Hemavathi canal breached at Dadadahalli near here (K R Nagar taluk) on Friday, with the gushing water washing away standing crops.

According to farmers, water in large quantity was released into the canal in the last three days, resulting in breach of up to 60 feet at the 28th distribution point (eighth km). Following this, crops like paddy, ragi and arecanut were destroyed. Monuments disappear

Many historical temples and monuments at Paschima Vahini near Srirangapatna in Mandya district have been submerged in River Cauvery, following the release of 65,000 cusecs of water from KRS dam.

The water level in the dam stood at 124.3 feet on Friday, against the maximum level of 124.8 feet. The outflow was increased by about 5,000 cusecs to 64,920 cusecs, while the inflow stands at 57,744 cusecs. The river water level has not crossed the danger mark. The Wellesley bridge is almost submerged.
