Vayu Vajra fares hiked by Rs 5

Last Updated 06 August 2014, 20:32 IST

Despite the transport minister promising not to pass the burden of toll hike for Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on the passengers, BMTC has quietly hiked the fare by Rs 5 on Vayu Vajra services.

The officials say that it was becoming difficult for the Corporation to sustain the losses everyday on account of toll hike. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy had stated that the losses incurred by the BMTC on account of toll fee hike will be absorbed and will not be passed on to the passengers. BMTC officials state that the BMTC is incurring a loss of Rs 52,000 per day on toll fee alone and it has reached Rs 25 lakh so far.

BMTC MD Anjum Parvez said: “At the time of toll hike, there was no increase in the fares of vayu Vajra services. Even otherwise, there was a hike in fares for other services but not Vayu Vajra. But the everyday loss is a huge burden on BMTC and that is why there is a minimal hike of Rs 5.”

BMTC plies 66 buses to KIA operating 240 trips per day.
