Reddy granted bail in AMC case

 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court in the City on Wednesday granted bail to mining baron and former minister Gali Janaradhana Reddy in an illegal mining case involving Associated Mining Company (AMC), a firm owned by him.

 However, Reddy will not be released from prison as four more cases are pending against him. 

Almost three years after his arrest, Reddy has got a little reprieve with the special court judge Ashwanth Narayana granting him bail in one of the cases.

Conditions imposed

Reddy has been directed to furnish a personal bond for Rs 10 lakh, along with two sureties. He has been directed not to meet any witnesses nor tamper with or destroy any evidence. He has been directed to appear before the investigating officer every month.

 The Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested Reddy on September 5, 2011 from his residence in Bellary. His bail petitions were rejected by the High Court in 2012.

Reddy had approached the apex court seeking bail and his petition was rejected on July 12, 2013.

8 other accused

Eight other accused in the case, including Reddy’s wife, have been granted bail. 

The Central Bureau of Investigation had recently filed a chargesheet against Reddy in the case.

Considering this, the special court has granted him bail. The company had allegedly caused a loss of Rs 480 crore to the State exchequer.
