We played the perfect game, says Cook

England skipper Alastair Cook on Thursday said a perfect effort from his batsmen and bowlers set up their massive 266-run win over India in the third Test.

“This summer we've played good cricket for one-two sessions out of three. But here, in bowling, we managed to keep that pressure for the whole session. And with the bat we got greedy — that set up the game. Scoreboard pressure told and we had as good a game as you could have,” Cook said.

“I thought we performed really well, to a man. The guys who were questioned really delivered. It's great to see Belly score a big hundred. When you set the game up like we did you get ahead of the game and can dictate it,” he added.

Cook also expressed satisfaction about him getting two fifties in this Test and stressed that they needed to repeat the effort in the last two Tests. “We were relentless in this game. The challenge is to repeat it at Old Trafford and try and win the series.”

Man of the match James Anderson, who will face a hearing on a disciplinary issue on Friday, said the controversy has had no effect on him. “Once we get to the ground it was all about the cricket,” he said.
