Fashion designer acquitted of murder

A City Court has acquitted  fashion designer Sowmya Bhat along with her friend on charges of killing her husband.

The Whitefield police had arrested Bhat and Venkataramana Bhat for allegedly killing Govind Bhat, in 2010. The case of the prosecution was that Sowmya and Venkataramana had fallen in love and decided to eliminate Govind Bhat.

Govind Bhat, who was working as a service engineer at a private firm in ITPL, had married Sowmya of Kukkeri, Belthangady taluk. He came to City in search of job and settled at Whitefield, sharing a room with his friend Venkataramana Bhat. Sowmya, who continued her studies in Karkala, visited him every month.

On April 29, 2010 Venkataramana and Sowmya took Govind Bhat to a hospital and informed the staff that he had slipped and fell in the bathroom. Govind Bhat was declared brought dead at the hospital. The Whitefield Police however, grew suspicious and registered a suo motu case against the wife. Six months after the incident, the police arrested the two. The police alleged that the two had beat up Govind Bhat and then brought him to a hospital. While Sowmya was out on bail during the trial, Venkataramana was in judicial custody till date.
