Bangalore psychologist dies on way to Leh

A psychologist from the City, Rajini Gopinath, who was on a holiday, breathed her last on Monday morning en route to Leh. Post mortem reports reveal that she died due to lack of oxygen in the high altitude.

According to a family member of the 37-year-old Gopinath, who was on a road trip to Manali, the incident came as a shock to the family. Rajini, who is believed to have been healthy even on Sunday evening, complained of uneasiness early Monday morning. She was declared brought dead when she was taken to a hospital. Rajini was accompanied by friends from Chandigarh.

They were to go to Leh, Kulu Manali and Shimla.

Gopinath left home last Sunday in a car and was unable to get in touch with her family due to mobile phone network problem. “They were to go to Leh, Kulu Manali and Shimla. She would contact the family only when they found STD booths,” the family member explained.

The grieving family has hurdles to face with claiming the last remains of Gopinath. With the cause of her death yet to be ascertained, a family member said they had to seek help from authortites there. “We are requesting the members of the Indian Army to help us in this regard as a lot of legal issues are involved,” she added. 

Gopinath, who studied at Nimhans, was working as a psychologist at the Department of Psychology in Manipal Hospital Mangalore. She is survived by her parents and elder brother.
