Incessant rain disrupts normal life in parts of State

Normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of the State owing to heavy rains on Wednesday.The Kodagu district administration has declared holiday for schools and colleges for the second day on Thursday.

With River Kannika overflowing in Bhagamandala, the road to Madikeri was under water for a few hours. River Lakshmanatheertha is in spate in South Kodagu.

The bridge on Balele-Nittur road is submerged in water. Paddy fields have been inundated at Kanive, Nanjarayapattana, Guddehosur in Kushalnagar hobli.

The incident of a youth being washed away in River Cauvery came to light on Wednesday.

The body of the youth is yet to be traced. The water-level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2856.37 feet with the inflow of 7,411 cusecs.

Udupi

Two fishermen reportedly went missing in River Seethanadi in Brahmavar, Udupi district.According to police, the missing are identified as Suresh (37) and Jayaker (32).

Both had ventured into the river for fishing in a boat. The boat turned turtle following the gusty wind and strong undercurrent in the river. The police said the bodies are yet to be traced out.

Mangalore

Though rainfall receded in Mangalore, the sky remained overcast whole day. The region started receiving intermittent rainfall towards evening.

Shimoga

Heavy rain lashed several parts of the district throwing normal life out of gear, on Wednesday.

Beesanagadde village in Sagar taluk was marooned while around 1,100 acres of paddy field in Mandagalale, Kanle and Saidur villages in the taluk were inundated.

Holiday was declared to schools in Sagar taluk on Wednesday.

Some parts of Shimoga and Bhadravathi received copious rain in the morning.

In the last 24 hours, Mani received the highest rainfall of 162 mm, followed by Yadur (158 mm), Mastikatte (148 mm), Hulikal (128 mm) and Agumbe (107 mm).

The water level in Linganamakki rose to 1778.40 feet against the maximum level of 1819 feet. Similarly, water level in Bhadra rose to 163.30 feet against the maximum level of 186 feet.

Water level in Tunga dam rose to 587.42 metre against the maximum level of 588.24 metre.

Chikmagalur

Heavy rains lashed Chikmagalur on Wednesday too. A house was damaged at Banakal hobli in Mudigere taluk. Kigga in Sringeri has recorded highest of 169.7 mm rainfall.

Heavy rain has been lashing Sakleshpur in Hassan district for the past 15 days.

North Karnataka

Rain intensified in several districts of North Karnataka on Wednesday.

Officegoers and students had tough time in reaching their destinations.

Six bridges are under water in Chikodi taluk of Belgaum district due to copious rains in neighbouring Maharashtra.

Uttara Kannada

Incessant rains pounded Uttara Kannada district throughout the day.

Movement of vehicles was affected following tree fall in Yallapur and other places.
