ZP president, vice-president elected unanimously

Bhagya of Doddamagge, in Arkalgud taluk, and Lakshmana Gowda of Dudda, in Hassan taluk, both of the Janata Dal (Secular) have been unanimously elected as the president and vice-president of the Zilla Panchayat respectively for the last part of the current term, here on, Wednesday. Their term will end on February 16, 2016.

Regional Commissioner Jayanthi, who was also the election officer, announced the results during the election meeting of the ZP, which started at 3 pm.

While Bhagya had submitted two sets of nomination papers for the post of president, Lakshmana Gowda had filed just one set of papers.

The supporters of the president and the vice-president, who were waiting outside the ZP ,burst crackers even before the results were announced as it was expected to rain.
Addressing media persons, later, the new president said, she would strive to reach the benefits extended by the governments to the people intended.

“Provision of clean drinking water, healthcare services, quality education and good roads are my priority,” she said.

Additional Regional Commissioner B Ramu, CEO Upendra Prathap Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner Gopalakrishna were present.
