JOIN USThe State government will take a relook at the recommendation made to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Board to withdraw Vibgyor High’s recognition to ensure that students are not affected and classes resume at the earliest.
Following the rape of a six-year-old girl at the school on July 2, the State government on June 21 had written to the ICSE Board requesting it to derecognise the school.
Considering the pleas of parents not to cancel the licence or recognition, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Rathnakar said the government will have another look at the issue, said Rajkumar Khatri, principal secretary, primary and secondary education.
“The minister has said that he will examine the matter of reconsidering the recommendation made to the ICSE Board as it is a question of children’s education,” Khatri told Deccan Herald on Tuesday.
The minister held a meeting with the staff of Vibgyor High at Vikasa Soudha on Tuesday to discuss the issues that were raised by the parents, who met the minister on Monday.
Commissioner of Public Instruction Mohammed Mohsin said the school staff has taken note of all the suggestions made by the parents and department officials.
However, the department is still awaiting the school’s reply to the show-cause notice issued on June 21 asking the school why its No Objection Certificate should not be withdrawn.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner M N Reddi visited Vibgyor High on Tuesday. He also met the parents who told him that several access points in the school are not provided with adequate security and there are no CCTV cameras in places where they are necessary.
Reddi assured them that the police will look into the security aspects and ensure that certain measures are implemented at the earliest.
During a meeting with the school management on Tuesday, parents put forth 15 demands, which included the presence of a woman staffer inside the school bus, not allowing the public inside the school premises when the children are present and forming a parents-teachers association.
The parents are scheduled to meet Rustom Kerrawala, the chairman of Vibgyor High, or a representative from the management on Wednesday. Education department officials and police officers will also attend the meeting.
