BHU teacher caught on camera thrashing wife

Last Updated 22 July 2014, 20:13 IST

A professor in the prestigious Benaras Hindu University (BHU) was caught on camera kicking and thrashing his wife whom he had married after a love affair, and pushing her out of his house on Tuesday.

The footage of the thrashing aired by the local TV channels showed the professor, identified as Krishna Mohan Singh, a faculty member in the Hindi department at BHU in Varanasi, kicking his wife Krishna Singh and hitting her with a lathi as she shouts for help.

The badly bruised wife later said that Singh started thrashing her when she objected to his alleged ‘extramarital relationship’, a charge denied by the husband.

According to reports, Singh married Krishna after a brief love affair a few years back. Their relationship, however, turned bitter later and Singh filed a divorce petition in a local court in 2012.

Krishna claimed that her husband was having an extramarital affair. She said that she had gone to her parents’ house in 2012 for few days and when she came back, Singh refused her entry. Krishna had been living at another house for the past few months, reports said.

“I came to know on Tuesday that Singh had been living with some other woman,” she said, adding that she had gone to Singh to tell him that they were still husband and wife as a divorce had not yet been granted.

Police said that a case has been registered against Singh and he has been arrested.
