Sunny relieved of BCCI job

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed a plea made by former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar to be relieved of the responsibility of acting as BCCI’s interim president as he had finished the task of conducting IPL-7.

Acting on a letter written by the legendary cricketer, a bench of Justices T S Thakur and F M I Kalifullah passed an order, freeing him from the task.

“Now, since IPL-7 has concluded, there is no reason that Gavaskar can’t be relieved of his assignment in terms of our orders passed on March 28 and May 16, so as to enable him to take up any other assignments including as commentator,” the court said.

After BCCI president N Srinivisan agreed to step aside from the board in view of the allegations of conflict of interest in the probe into IPL spot-fixing and betting, the apex court had directed Gavaskar to manage the affairs of the IPL-7, till the court decided on the matter.
