Hemanth sets new mark in 200 IM

Karnataka’s Md Yaqoob Saleem continued the gold rush for the State on the fourth day of the 41st Junior Aquatic Championships here on Tuesday. 

Saleem took home the gold in the boys’ 400-metre freestyle event in Group I with a time of 4:10.58. Maharashtra’s Ishaan Jaffer and Anand AS of Kerala finished second and third respectively. 

In a continuing theme, Karnataka’s Hemanth Junekal created a new record in the boys’ 200-metre indivudual medley in Group II with a time of 2:19.68. The old record was held by fellow State-mate Likith SP, who had clocked a time of 2:20.12. 

Bengal’s Supriya Mondal did temporarily halt Karnataka hegemony with two first places in the 50-metre butterfly and the 200-metre individual medley (Group I).
