Auto driver killed in wall collapse

An auto driver, who was relieving himself in a vacant plot of land near J C Road, was killed when the retaining wall collapsed on him on Wednesday.

The deceased, Farooque, 35, a resident of Goripalya, had pulled up his autorickshaw next to the plot around 2 pm. Just as he attended to the nature’s call, the wall in front collapsed on him, trapping him underneath. Passersby rescued him and took him to a hospital but he had died by then.

The 15-foot-high wall had developed cracks because of rainfall in the last few days. It was being used as a urinal, said a police officer who visited the spot.

The plot is owned by Madesh and police have booked him for negligence. Farooque is survived by wife and son.
