The Supreme Court on Monday got three new judges as Justices Arun Mishra, Adarsh Kumar Goel and R F Nariman assumed charge after being administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India R M Lodha.
With this, the overall number of judges rose to 27, even as the sanctioned strength is 31. Family members of the three new judges attended the ceremony held in the Chief Justice’s court.
Former solicitor general and senior advocate Nariman (58) has been elevated directly from the bar. Justices Mishra (59) and Goel (61) were, till then, acting as chief justices of Calcutta and Orissa high courts, respectively.
