A 32-year-old man allegedly shot dead his elder sister at south-west Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar on Monday.

The man was involved in a property dispute with his 40-year-old sister and that is being seen as the primary reason for the attack.

Victim Vidya Devi was headed from her house towards a cow shelter in Dichaon Kalan village on her two-wheeler around noon on Monday.

On the way she was waylaid by a man on a motorcycle who fired one bullet that penetrated her head.

The sound of gunfire drew the attention of the passers-by who rushed to the spot. The attacker was unable to ride away on the motorcycle and ran away.

“The motorcycle recovered belonged to Vidya’s brother Khilendra. He is a very strong suspect in this case and is absconding. We are hoping to nab him soon,” a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.

Vidya, meanwhile, was rushed to Rao Tula Ram Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Police spoke to the victim’s parents and other family members who revealed that the siblings were involved in a property dispute.

“Vidya had been married to a man in Bijwasan. But the relationship with her husband turned sour and she returned to her parents’ home in Dichaon Kalan. Her brother did not like this as he thought the property would be divided between them,” said another police officer.

This had allegedly led to several quarrels between the siblings.

The latest of such fights on Sunday had turned ugly, the victim’s father told police, adding he had already transferred the property in Khilendra’s name but he continued to suspect his sister’s motives.

“He also often fought with his parents. Last year, he had threatened to kill his mother after which his parents had approached police,” said the officer.

A case of murder has been registered against Khilendra.
