District in-charge Minister Ambarish said, he would direct the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat to probe the allegations of corruption against the manager of the Minorities Development Corporation.

Chairing the progress review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme, in Mandya, on Saturday, Ambarish was responding to the demand by JD(S) MLAs to suspend the manager Chennigarayappa.

The issue came up for discussion with Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda asking the details of the beneficiaries of the corporation under his constituency.

The manager said, the cheques have not yet been issued to the beneficiaries as the government has not given its approval. The MLA said, people have been complaining to him that the manager was demanding a bribe to issue the cheques.

Nagamangala MLA N Chaluvarayaswamy condemned the official for demanding bribes from poor beneficiaries. All the JD(S) MLAs, unanimously, demanded that the official be suspended as there were already several Lokayukta cases against him.

Ambarish said, an official cannot be suspended like that. He said, he would ask the DC and the ZP CEO to probe the issue and take action based on their recommendations.
