DMDK goes for a revamp

Last Updated 26 June 2014, 20:12 IST

After the worst-ever poll debacle, the Opposition Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) led by actor politician Vijayakanth in Tamil Nadu went for a revamp by suspending several district secretaries.

The party chief also decided to start a state-wide tour from Thursday to meet office bearers and leaders in each constituency. The 10-day whirlwind tour, titled “Ungaluddan naan” (I am with you all), is expected to rejuvenate party cadres, whose morale was low since the party suffered a drubbing in the recent Parliament elections. Party sources said Vijayakanth will also receive a detailed report from the district leaders on the party’s defeat.

The party also suspended several district secretaries, including the ones in Tirunelveli and Dindigul, where the DMDK lost the deposits in the recent concluded polls.

The meeting by Vijayakanth was the first one after the elections and comes close on the heels of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi’s move to suspend his party’s 33 district secretaries after the poll debacle.
