JOIN USFair price shop (FPS) owners across the State have threatened to continue their strike till they get a written assurance from the government that their problems would be addressed.
Karnataka Fair Price Shop Owners’ Association president T Krishnappa on Thursday said that a majority of the FPSs in the State would have to close down if the government enforced its new set of rules issued recently. He said they would write to the district commissioners and tahsildars at the taluk and district level.
He said they would not collect commodities from godowns for distribution in the month of July. “This is not an issue that has been there for a day or two. It has been our demand since six years,” he claimed.
He said the FPSs, who get a commission of Rs 5,000 per month, were expected to shell out Rs 9,000 for paying the employees’ salaries. “The shop owners are being victimised for no fault of theirs,” he said. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Dinesh Gundu Rao, was not available for comments.
