JOIN US The water level in Tunga dam has almost reached its brim and 3,328 cusecs of water was released from the eight crest gates of the dam on Friday.
According to dam authorities, the inflow of water to the dam increased following good rainfall in Thirthahalli and Sringeri taluks in Chickmagalur district for the past few days.
Water is being released from Thursday night. The water level stood at 588.21 mtrs against the maximum level 588.24 mtrs. However, the catchment areas of the dam have not received heavy rainfall. The newly established power generation plant at the dam has begun generating power over the last two days.
The water level stood at 1746.25 feet in Linganamakki dam against the maximum level of 1819 feet and the water level stood at 134.10 feet in Bhadra dam, against the maximum level of 186 feet.
Traffic disrupted
A huge tree fell on the 8th cross of Agumbe Ghat Road, connecting Shimoga and Udupi districts, following heavy winds, that lead to traffic disruption for more than three hours in the morning.
All vehicles heading towards Udupi and Mangalore via Agumbe were stranded for more than three hours. Officials of the Public Works Department and the Police rushed to the spot and cleared the tree in a three-hour long operation and paved way for the traffic.
Several parts of the district received moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday.
Over the last 24 hours, Thirthahalli received the highest rainfall of 51.2 mm, followed by Hosanagar - 49.2 mm, Sagar - 12.6 mm, Sorab - 11.2 mm, Shimoga - 9.6 mm, Bhadravathi - 7.2 mm, and Shikaripur - 2.0 mm.
