South Utd second

Last Updated 10 June 2014, 17:05 IST

Ramu’s 79th minute strike helped MEG hold South United to a 1-1 draw in their BDFA Super Division encounter at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Tuesday.

The excitement of a potential title decider on the last day of the league was sucked out when ADE won the title on Monday but there was still lots to play for and South United, needing a point to seal to second spot, grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

They ended level on points (14 points) with CIL but they took second because of a superior goal difference.

South United took the attack to the opposition in the early stages and were rewarded with a goal when Sharath slotted home in the 9th minute.  MEG, who were finding their feet in the second half equalised through Ramu.

The match took a bad turn when the South United keeper, Amit Shaw, made a rash tackle and was sent off with 6 minutes to play and that proved to be last significant action of the match. The season has been a disappointing one for established sides like HASC who finished in eighth place, with 8 points from as many games.

Result: ‘A’ Division: Student Union: 1 (Mithesh 90+3) bt LRDE: 0.

Wednesday’s fixtures: ‘A’ Division: Postal vs BUFC; DYES vs Bangalore Independents.
