A solitary goal from Rajesh in first-half injury time was the difference as Rail Wheel Factory stunned fancied Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club 1-0 in their Super Division encounter here at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Friday.

For HASC, who were playing in the I-League not so long ago, Xavier Vijay Kumar came the closest as his first-half free-kick struck the upright.

The Aircraftmen also wasted a few chances in the second-half and their general lack of a final ball let them down repeatedly as the match wore on.  There were warning signs for HASC as their high backline was caught unawares on more than one occasion before Rajesh’s goal in the second minute of injury time.

Their defence was split superbly by a slide-rule pass from Prakash and No 10 Rajesh showed good composure to leave the advancing goalkeeper Amardeb stranded before passing it into the back of the net.

RWF then started to play on the counter in the second half which suited them as HASC left huge gaps as they went in search of the equaliser.

HASC controlled possession in the midfield with aplomb and played most of the second-half in the RWF half but hurried shots, overcooked passes and underhit crosses formed the majority of the narrative.  Vivekananda almost gra-bbed a point for HASC in second-half injury time but he flashed his free header from close range wide off the far post. Saturday is a rest day.
