JOIN USKarnataka Fisheries Development Corporation former president Ramachandra Baikampady has said that the BJP-led State government in the State had arranged for bank loans to women from fishing community at an interest rate of three per cent per annum. In all, 13, 600 women had received the loan facilities.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that the dredging in Mangalore, Malpe, Hejamady, Karawar ports were taken up during the BJP tenure. MP B S Raghavendra had allotted Rs 25 crore for the construction of Kodiyeri port.
Opposing the implementation of the PCPIR project in Mangalore, he said that the project will pollute the district.
Baikampady said the corporation during the tenure of B S Yeddyurappa had submitted a proposal to the Union government to sanction Rs 100 crore for distributing modern kits to fishermen. The fund was sanctioned. But the Department of Fisheries in Karnataka did not show interest to make the proposal a reality by consulting the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). As a result, the released fund was cancelled.
Shobhendra Shashihitlu said that under CRZ-1 and CRZ-2 fishermen can build house, but the Congress government has made it difficult to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government. Earlier, the office was in Mangalore and it was possible to get NOC within a day, but now the office has been shifted to Bangalore.
