The fate of 15 candidates for Mysore-Kodagu constituency will be sealed on Thursday. The counting will be held in Mysore on May 16.
The district has been receiving brisk rain for the last thre days. The polling percenatge is likely to be increased if Rain God shows a mercy.
The party workers visited the houses to seek vote for their respective candidates on Wednesday.
There are eight assembly constituencies in Mysore-Kodagu constituency. They are Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja, Chamaraja, Chamundeshwari, Hunasoor, Piriyapattana, Madikeri and Virajpet.
Out of 17 lakh voters in the constituency, 4,20,572 voters are from Kodagu district.This includes 2,11,318 in Madikeri assembly constituency.
In 2009, the polling percentage in the district was 63.86 per cent. The district administration had taken up series of activities as a part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), to increase the poll percentage. The polling percentage during the last Assembly election was 73.28 per cent.
There are 526 polling booths in the district, of which, 150 are sensitive, 118 hyper sensitive and 250 general booths.
Security
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the polling, said Superintendent of Police M N Anucheth.
Paramilitary forces have been deployed in 18 locations including Soorlabbi, Hammiyala, Garvale, Kadamakallu, Onachalu, Nelaki, Makutta, Birunani, Nagarahole and Moorkallu. Home guards have also been deployed.
Transportation
Voters can use services of KSRTC buses deployed for election purpose to reach the polling stations between 7 am and 3 pm in the remote villages.
The voters have to pay Rs 6 or Rs 8 for the service depending on the distance. After casting the election, if the voters show their indelible ink mark then they need not pay for the return journey, said Regional Transport Officer Nafeez Ahammed.
Alternative IDs
Those who do not have an elector’s photo identity card (EPIC), can bring any one of 11 other photo identity documents for verification purpose to exercise franchise in the parliamentary elections for Lok Sabha constituency.
The 11 photo identity cards are passport, driving licence, service identity card issued by Union or State governments, passbook, Aadhaar card, PAN Card, smart card, MNREGS job card, Health Insurance Card provided by Labour Department, Pension card, and authenticated voters’ slip, said a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer.
