4-laning NH, electrification of train part of BJP manifesto

'Arecanut price will be fixed by announcing revolving fund'

The Dakshina Kannada BJP unit released an election manifesto for the DK constituency here on Saturday. 

The manifesto promises four-laning of national highways that passes through Dakshina Kannada district, electrification of local train on the model of Mumbai, railwayline to connect Mangalore to Bangalore via Arasikere. The manifesto also promises to set up a fullfledged passport office in Mangalore, supply of 24 hours electricity to farmers, relaxation of CRZ on the model of Kerala and Goa.   

The election manifesto has also assured of converting the region into an educational hub of the state, support for arecanut, coconut and rubber related industries, permanent solution to endosulfan problem, emphasis to agriculture by announcing special economic zone for agriculture, satellite based fishing, special zone for developing value addition in fisheries sector. 

An international stadium in Mangalore city corporation limits, environment friendly industries to provide employment to the youth, IT park among others have been included in the manifesto. The manifesto was released by senior leaders Jayaram Shetty and Balakrishna Bhat. 

Speaking on the occasion, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said that the value the Indian rupee has seen sharp depreciation in the last 10 years of the UPA rule. The border of the country is no more safe. Intrusion of Bangladeshis is on rise.  Women are not safe in the coastal district. 

The manifesto has given priority to providing basic facilities to fast growing Mangalore city. He said that to overcome confusion over arecanut, suitable price will be fixed by announcing revolving fund. Measures to protect cattle breed, pro people and pro farmer policy, food processing policy has been part of the manifesto.  BJP leaders Kumble Sundar Rao, Rajani Dugganna, former MLA Yogish Bhat among others look on. 

Support  Nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Derrick M B Fullinfaw has appealed to the Christian community to support the BJP in the elections, as the Congress had done nothing substantial for the minorities. 

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Derrick M B Fullinfaw  said “there were two waves in the country — a pro-BJP wave and an anti-Congress wave. The end result will be the victory of the BJP. Even the Muslim and Christian communities are slowly supporting BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who is synonymous with the good governance.” 

Coming down heavily on the Congress government, the MLA said that minorities were not benefitted with the rule. “During the BJP’s rule, churches were given funds for renovation. A Haj Bhavan was promised for the pilgrims in the state when B S Yeddyurappa was the chief minister,” he said.
